IMPORTANT: As of January 31st, 2010, StoreSync will be only available to Shopify customers. All existing customers running another e-commerce platform will no longer be able to make use of the product, and their accounts will be deactivated.
Shopify, a provider of turnkey hosted e-commerce solutions, today announced its acquisition of MNDCreative, developers of the StoreSync application.
StoreSync extends Shopify’s online store tracking, reporting and management functionality to the Apple iPhone with an integrated mobile interface.
Shopify is a hosted application platform that allows merchandisers to quickly and easily create beautifully customized, full-featured online stores. The Shopify platform allows them to organize products, accept credit card payments through payment gateways, instantly update storefront images and content, track and respond to orders in real time, and manage all aspects of online sales.
The StoreSync mobile interface application provides instant mobile access to online store sales statistics, order processing, shipment status and product and customer information from an iPhone, anytime, anywhere. As part of the acquisition agreement, the StoreSync mobile application will be available exclusively to Shopify customers as Shopify StoreSync.
As a Shopify certified developer partner, MNDCreative was able to use our API to integrate the StoreSync mobile interface into the Shopify system, and they took full advantage of that to create a great application, but there were still limitations to what they could develop and deliver to the market,” commented Tobi Lütke, CEO of Shopify. “Going forward, we will combine our e-commerce and mobile application expertise to deliver more robust, richer applications that reflect the features and functionality that Shopify customers want and request.”
MNDCreative’s founder and president, Matt Newberry, will join Shopify as Mobile Lead. In his new role, Newberry will be leading development of an ambitious new mobile payment solution.
Both Shopify and MNDCreative are privately held companies; financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

So I paid up front for a year and you’re cutting my Magento store off?
Hi, I had a working StoreSync account tied to my Shopify account. The billing screwed up, and refused to verify my payment method after a successful initial billing cycle. Now, having missed one billing cycle, due to this failing of StoreSync, my account has been suspended, and my account declares that my account owes $27 rather than the $9 that it should be. How and when will this be rectified so that I can use this previously great app with my Shopify account again? THis has undermined my confidence in Shopify too.
I would really appreciate a response to this, as an email to StoreSync support, and a posting on the support blog / forum has drawn no response. I feel robbed right now.
clearly you don’t care about screwing the early adopters that got you to the point of being purchased. at least you could do is let us into our accounts so we can remove our data ourselves to ensure it’s gone.
jonathan: I care very much so about the early adopters. The press release was released before I was ready, and thus all the information regarding the sale and care of customers was not properly prepared. I responded to you on twitter, however feel free to email me directly.
That explains the non-responses regarding my errant billing. I asked to cancel my trial account before it expired but billing is still automatically being attempted daily and sending me an error e-mail (the card I used is now expired). I guess it’ll be a bit before that’s all ironed out though — at least I know it’s not the billing dept. being stubborn.
The early adopters whom not only used, but help test, the application are very important to me. There has been a delay in refunding customers, as initially promised, through the acquisition period.
It’s very important to me that the original users do not feel shafted in anyway, rather rewarded for their participation.
